Global Learning Programme Wales

World's Largest Lesson 2016

The World’s Largest Lesson is an initiative which aims to ensure that all children, everywhere, learn about the Sustainable Development Goals. In 2016  schools all over the world were asked to teach a lesson during the week beginning 19th September with a focus is on Goal 5 “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.”

GLP-W is keen to support schools in Wales to deliver the World’s Largest Lesson and has produced comprehensive bilingual resources on the theme of gender equality, available here

Further resources in English only are also available on the World’s Largest Lesson website

Following the May 2016 National Assembly elections, Wales has a higher proportion of female representatives (41%) than the House of Commons or the Scottish or Northern Ireland Assemblies. In Wales the Secretary for Education, the Children’s Commissioner and the Future Generations Commissioner are all women. However much remains to be done to achieve gender balance – for example just 2% of the chief executives of the 100 top companies in Wales are women. What do you think is the situation in other countries?
