Safe Havens Training Resources

The Global Learning Programme-Wales has been working with approved providers – Show Racism the Red Card, Martin Pollard of CEWC and Gill Miller, International Development Studies, University of Chester - as well as with local authorities to organise the “Safe Havens” conferences.  These free events are designed to improve teachers’ knowledge and understanding of population movements including refugees and asylum seekers, empower teachers to tackle prejudice and racism, highlight relevant resources, and share effective practice from GLP-W schools.

Comments from previous participants:

"This course was excellent and has provided me with additional ideas and materials to use / adapt with my pupils in class."

"The event has increased my knowledge and clarified misconceptions. I think that I am better informed to explain issues that may arise."

"It will help me to discuss sensitive issues effectively, discuss misconceptions, and help with social and emotional needs of the pupils."

"I have a better understanding of the issues faced by refugees and a greater empathy. Also ideas for dealing with issues surrounding racism."
